Instant – This is the most basic of portfolios, but is also where everyone should have some of their savings. This return is achieved with 100% of the savings amount being held in the best Instant Access Account

Notice Portfolio – This portfolio places 50% of savings in the best Instant Access account and 50% in the best Notice Account. This can achieve better returns as some period of notice has to be provided to gain access to the money.

1 Year Portfolio – This portfolio has 25% in Instant Access Accounts, 25% in Notice Accounts and 50% in a 1 year Fixed Rate Account. All of the money is therefore available within 12 months, but better returns can be achieved.

2 Year Portfolio – This portfolio places circa 17% in Instant Access Accounts, 17% in Notice Accounts, 33% in a 1 Year Fixed Rate Accounts and 33% in a 2 Year Fixed Rate Account.

This portfolio has money held over 2 years, which means;

  • 1. It will not need reviewing after 12 months.
  • 2. A better rate of interest will be achieved.

3 Year Portfolio – An extension of the 2 Year Portfolio which enables accounts with even higher rates of interest to be included. The balance of this portfolio is as shown below.

4 Year Portfolio – The longer the term of the portfolio the better the overall returns achieved. The 4 year portfolio in the calculator places money as shown below.

5 Year Portfolio – Finally, the portfolio that is probably the most effective for long term savings planning, but which requires a larger portfolio to make it suitable and user friendly. The balance of the savings in this example portfolio is as shown.
